Dear NCWRA Members:
With only a few weeks of summer left, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you about what the NCWRA Board of Directors has been up to the past few months, and the exciting opportunities ahead for fall and early 2013.
Strategic Planning for the Future
In July 2012, NCWRA board members gathered for a full day of strategic planning and discussion about how to grow NCWRA into the future. The session was facilitated by Michael B. Schlegel, Water Resources Program Manager with Triangle J Council of Governments. We’d like to share a few key outcomes from that session, many of which reflect comments we have heard from our membership over the years. These include diversifying our events and activities, reaching different geographic areas of NC, increasing and improving opportunities for professionals to network with each other at NCWRA events, providing more opportunities for members to be engaged in planning and conducting NCWRA activities, seeking ways to engage university students, and helping water resources professionals stay informed about water resources issues. We hope you will help us reach these goals and respond to our efforts to grow and strengthen our organization. Stay tuned for more on the NCWRA strategic planning initiative!
Seeking Board Member Nominations
NCWRA seeks nominations for board members for the following positions: president-elect, vice president, treasurer, secretary (all 1 year terms), and several member-at-large positions (2 year terms). Nominees will be placed on the ballot and voting will take place in December, with positions starting in January 2013. We would love to see some fresh faces on the board. Please send nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Want to be more involved but not sure about serving on the board? NCWRA has a few immediate opportunities for members to be more engaged. The NCWRA Symposium will once again take place in conjunction with the WRRI Annual Conference on March 21-22, 2013 in Raleigh. We are in need of volunteers to serve as moderators for concurrent sessions, as well as serve a few other conference roles, and to serve as judges for the joint NCWRA/WRRI student poster competition. Please email email@example.com if you are interested in volunteering.
